First Placement

My first day on placement at The London Contemporary Dance School.

I felt excited but also slightly nervous about starting my first placement. I think I have had quite an intense journey on trying to secure my first placement so to finally have one is such a stress release. I think the nerves were to be expected, going somewhere new and unfamiliar can cause such feelings. As someone who doesn’t live in London, I am used to commuting anywhere from 1 -2 hours to get to Wimbledon and on this occasion it took me around 40 minutes to get to this placement is a nice change to have. I am only spending a few days at this placement until mid-November to do more days. Between now and November, I will be taking on my second placement which is with the English National Opera.

After getting to meet the team and having a tour of the place I got stuck in helping make shorts for a third-year performance. I also got to look at the designs for the performance which are quite simple but have interesting shapes/forms. The designs had been created by an outside designer so the team at LCDS main focus has been on making. The team in the costume department is quite small being comprised of three people, which I quite like. My next day of placement here will be helping out with the 3rd Year fittings for this performance. I had previously mentioned that I would be interested in seeing/ being involved with some fittings so I am looking forward to seeing how this will go.
